Finally running again

Today I took the dogs for a run, and it felt really good. Upon returning home I locked the mutts in the house and decided to venture out for a run by myself. It was just as exhilarating as the first run. I can run, I guess it was just hard finding the motivation to do the actual running. I'm going to have to stick with it.

Tonight I played in my third C2 AHA hockey game. It seems so much easier than D1. I don't feel like we're all 5-year-olds chasing the puck. My teammates play very good positional hockey and passes are mostly tape to tape. Sounds like a farce, but we looked pretty good tonight.

We could have used some more defense to keep the puck out of our goal 6 times, but we scored 9, so it all worked out. I was on my bum once. I guess those transitions are still a work in progress. However, I felt so much more comfortable with the flat-bottom-V sharpening. If you play hockey, do yourself a favor and get those skates sharpened with the FBV. It makes a world of difference.

The other thing I learned today is I have a short IT band in my hip, according to the chiropractor. I thought I just had one leg that was shorter than the other. Turns out it, it's a muscle band that runs from my butt to my knee that is really tight. I bought a roller to help stretch it out. That's the other reason I wasn't running. My right hip hurt so bad after running I could barely walk.

I'm sure none of this has anything to do with the repeated bashing my hips took while trying to learn 360's at Spirit Mountain when I was 19. At one point, I couldn't lay on either side because they were so banged up. I'm sure that won't come back to haunt me in five years. Either way, I've learned how to spin those threes and make it count!

I'm going to stick with the running for a while and see if it helps with my hockey. I'm counting on everybody who doesn't read this to hold me to it!

Here's my run this afternoon:
